Reshma Simon Varzhese
Psychologist, Bsc (Hons), MPsych, MAPS
Reshma has experience across various settings including private practice, community mental health, NDIS, and in-patient psychiatric environments. In private practice, she works with a diverse clientele, ranging from children as young as 4 years old through to adults.
Reshma's interests extends to child and adult mental health, utilising evidence-based practices, and engaging collaboratively with families to address a broad spectrum of social-emotional challenges such as anxiety disorders, depression and mood disorders, trauma, behavioural challenges and neurodevelopmental (ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder) challenges. Additionally, she is adept in managing complex dual diagnosis presentations, ensuring comprehensive care and support for her clients.
Her therapy with children and young people takes a systemic approach, recognising the significant impact of family interaction patterns on psychological difficulties. She is trained and skilled in assisting families with complex and systemic issues. Understanding that a child's or adolescent's challenges are often rooted in their broader family context, she works with the entire family to ensure the most effective treatment.
By involving parents in the therapeutic process, she aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how these difficulties have developed and how best to address them. This approach respects the crucial role parents play and enhances the benefits of individual therapy for young people. Reshma's goal is to foster positive changes within the family system, supporting both the child and their parents in their journey towards better mental health.
